Shadows
Music by David LaMotte

Shadows is an instrumental piece which David plays at nearly every concert, though it's slightly different each night. It's played in open D tuning (DAD F# AD), and uses a variety of unusual guitar techniques, including harmonic tapping, hammer-ons and pull-offs, as well as a percussion break in which David plays the body of the guitar as though it were a drum. All this is run through a Boss DD-5 stereo delay pedal, which is set so that each note David plays is repeated several times.

This song is featured on:

Corners (2000)

Good Tar (2001)

And by the way...

...playing Shadows is usually one of my favorite parts of a show, and I do play it at almost every one. It's a little different every night, and continues to evolve, which is part of what makes it fun.

There is no other instrument playing, and nothing pre-recorded, but I do use a Boss DD-5 delay pedal to make each sound produced repeat and fade while I continue playing. This ends up in a situation a little bit like singing in a round by myself.
