David LaMotte Workshops

David has been presenting workshops and keynotes for over a decade. He has created and led classes and presentations for groups as diverse as elderhostels, adjudicated youth, academic comferences, corporate professionals and students impacted by school violence. His humor, life experience and knack for storytelling combine with his sincere interest in others' stories and gifts to make David an exceptional mentor and guide.

Workshops are available at various lengths and formats. Please get in touch to discuss any ideas you may have. Though David has been known to customize workshops for special events, the workshops listed below are some of his most popular.

“Some people are just natural teachers. David LaMotte is one of them.”

- Dolores Longhoffer, Arts Education Facilitator
Campbell County, WY

World Changing 101

Our cultural hero myths all too often leave us feeling powerless, and wondering why someone doesn't do something about the problems we face, rather than empowered to do something ourselves.

In this inspiring workshop, David shares stirring stories from the civil rights movement, the peace movement and from his experiences teaching, listening and performing from Bosnia to Belfast, as well as founding and leading P.E.G. Partners Inc., a non-profit organization to aid Guatemalan schools. [one to two hours, ages twelve and up]

Practical Dream Following

As a successful internationally touring artist, David brings credibility and authenticity to his presentations on vocation. David’s stories and thoughts on the difference between living in a dream world and living your dreams are as engaging and practical as they are encouraging. [one to two hours, ages twelve and up]

“Two years after his convocation here, I still hear students talking about his presentation and how relevant it was to their lives.”

– Mindy Maddux, Asst. Dean
Drury College, Springfield, MO

Poetry and Songwriting

Words can change hearts, and changing hearts changes the world. In David LaMotte’s poetry workshop he guides students through the practical and emotional challenges to writing well. Along the way, he debunks some commonly believed myths about writing. Through guided poetry exercises and instructive examples, David offers tools to enrich content, invite inspiration and polish craft. [One to twenty hours, five to thirty participants, ages fifteen and up, beginner to advanced]

Write Now

In this songwriting workshop geared for younger participants, David facilitates the writing of a song by the group. The workshop illustrates some writing techniques in a hands-on way, but concentrates on the joy of creating fun art together. [one to two hours, five to thirty-five participants, ages 8 and up, beginner]

Bizarre Guitar

This workshop is for guitarists who would like to explore creative tunings and other innovative approaches to guitar. Techniques demonstrated and taught include harmonic tapping, right hand fingering, guitar percussion and altering the string timbre with organic interference (i.e. sticking things in the strings). [one to four hours, five to thirty-five participants, ages 10 and up, basic guitar familiarity required]
