…if you’re trying to put Wyoming in there, or Montreat, or Guatemala, or Scotland.
If you need things that really do fit in stockings, I can hook you up on bookmarks, guitar pick tins full of guitar picks, or bumper stickers, CDs, books, etc., but, as someone once wrote in a song, “there’s no present like time.” Below are four opportunities to spend some time together in four different beautiful places. Any of them can be gifts for others or for yourself.
I have two trips abroad on the calendar that I am leading or co-leading, one in the U.S., and a weekend retreat in Montreat, NC. I’d love for you to join me at any of them! Here are the details (with more details to come on the Montreat weekend):
May 26 – June 1, 2024, Ring Lake Ranch (Wyoming)
I will be hosting a week-long retreat with my good friend Gareth Higgins, author of How Not To Be Afraid. The retreat is called, “A Different Lens: The Power of Transformative Storytelling.” The model at Ring Lake is to have four seminars in the evenings, then a whole lot of free time for rest and reflection each day, as well as the opportunity for less formal time together. July 7-17, 2024, Guatemala
A ten day trip through Guatemala co-led by Sarah Robinson Bryan and myself. We will travel in a group of not more than twenty to visit several projects that are supported by Senderos (formerly PEG Partners), the non-profit that my wife and I founded in 2004. You will be introduced to our Guatemalan friends and their culture, including food, music, politics, traditional arts (including textiles and clothing), and language. And just by going on the trip, you support each of the projects that we visit. More information and registration: senderosguatemala.org/trips/open-trip
October 11-13, 2024, Montreat, North Carolina
The dates are set and the details are yet to come, but if you want to get a sense of what the weekend will be like, take a look at last year’s retreat here, hold the time on your calendar, and drop us a note to let you know as soon as registration goes live! We will be back at William Black Lodge, and if we’re lucky, it will be the peak of leaf season. 🙂
July 3-13, 2025, Scotland
This will be a new experience for me (not Scotland, but this particular tour), and I can’t wait! This trip is music-centric, with concerts each night and a three night stay in each of three cities/towns — Edinburgh, Dunkeld, and Inverness. I’ll provide one of the concerts, and the rest will be top-notch Scottish musicians, some traditional and some contemporary singer-songwriters. The tour is organized and guided by Raven Sinclaire of Traceless Tours, and your participation will support environmental projects in Scotland. My job will be to host, which I think means hang out and make sure you’re having a good time. More information and registration: tracelesstours.com/music-tour-david
If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to get in touch. It’s going to be a fun bunch of events. Hope you can join me somewhere along the way!
